The Art-o-Mat AT BRG
BRG’s Art-o-mat was commissioned and made possible by Debbie Daniel
Art-o-mat® machines are retired cigarette vending machines that have been converted to vend art by North Carolina artist, Clark Whittington. There are over 170 active machines in various locations throughout the country and beyond. These machines offer a fun way to start or add to your art collection with unique pieces, all for just $5!
We invite you to come visit us and acquire new, original works of art with a $5 token and a "kerplunk!" You might walk away with a painting, sculpture, jewelry or something entirely different. With new art being added all the time, there's always something new for Art-o-mat collectors of all ages.
The machine is stocked with works from came stocked with several hundred works, by artists from around the world, and has work from 22 different artists at any given time.
Our goal is to encourage art collecting while also introducing Louisiana artists to join the network of 400+ artists creating pieces for the worldwide Art-o-mat network.
The unveiling of BRG’s Art-o-mat
The Art-o-mat that calls BRG home was first unveiled on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 during a First Wednesday Opening Reception at BRG. The evening included thanks to both Debbie Daniel, who commissioned the new machine, as well as Clark Whittington, who personally designed and oversaw production of it. Once the cover was lifted, attendees saw its bright colors, layered acrylic, and fun design. Tokens were dropped in and art was collected. Seen here are images, courtesy of Morgan Prewitt-Werther, from this unforgettable moment!
