six new artists elected to join brg artist membership
Baton Rouge Gallery - center for contemporary art (“BRG”), in an ongoing effort to showcase the best local and regional contemporary artists possible, is proud to announce the addition of six new visual artists to its roster.
We are excited to announce John Alleyne, Jeremiah Ariaz, Justin Tyler Bryant, Anita Cooke, Brad Jensen, and Audra Kohout have all been elected to BRG’s Artist Member roster.
Each year the gallery fields applications from artists which are then reviewed via a rigorous and competitive jurying process conducted by a panel of ten current BRG artist members elected by the full membership. An artist cooperative since it’s first day, it is at the sole discretion of BRG’s artist membership which artists are extended invitations to join.
This artist-centered approach sets BRG apart from most museum or commercial gallery frameworks, where decisions of whose work is exhibited may lie with a single curator or owner. This fosters an environment that provides visitors a unique curatorial viewpoint while promoting artistic exploration, inclusion, and more.
Currently, the gallery boasts an artist member roster of nearly 70 professional artists working in an array of media including fiber, drawing, glass, sculpture, painting, photography, and more.
BRG is delighted to add these six exceptional artists to its roster and looks forward to sharing their work with the greater Baton Rouge area for years to come.

about the Artist Member Selection Process
Each year BRG extends an open call to artists interested in artist membership with the 52 year old contemporary art center and artist cooperative. Applicants are reviewed by the gallery’s Screening Committee, a panel of ten current artist members - the makeup of which changes each year - elected by the full artist membership.
As an artist cooperative, it is at the sole discretion of the artist membership (through the Screening Committee) which artists are extended invitations to join. This artist-centered process sets BRG apart from most museum or commercial gallery structures where decisions of whose work is exhibited may lie with a single curator or owner.
Applications are judged on the artistic merit of the artist’s work, the strength of their resume / exhibition history, and the professionalism of their application.
Stay tuned for details on when each of our new artist members will have their debut exhibitions at BRG.
