jill stoll

Jill Stoll never met a medium she doesn’t like. She believes in the hand that draws, sketches, paints, collages, weaves, sews, knits, carves, prints, and releases the shutter of a (film) camera. An artist whose work transcends boundaries, she invites you to join her where each medium becomes a unique language, and every piece tells a story of ingenuity, curiosity, and a deep connection to the physical world.

Jill's practice is rooted in resourcefulness, as she seeks inspiration from the overlooked abundance of materials, such as cardboard, plastic bottles, and the invasive cat's claw vine (Uncaria tomentosa). Her art serves as an audit of her own consumer habits, using these materials as a reflection on consumption and sustainability. In her studio in Arabi, LA, she aims to create work that engage all five senses, transcending traditional art appreciation.

Jill’s roots trace back to her formative years at Interlochen Arts Academy, where under the tutelage of Lina Dean, she first delved into the intricate craft of weaving. These early lessons not only honed her technical abilities but also shaped her philosophical approach to art and design. Currently, Jill serves as a Professor of Practice in Design at Tulane University School of Architecture, where making and problem-solving are her areas of academic research, and she shares her insights with the next generation of creators.
