On Sunday, October 16, Baton Rouge Gallery’s Sundays@4 series is honored to welcome Sarah Gardner and Susie Anders to talk about the ongoing efforts to restore the Frank Hayden sculptures in Downtown Baton Rouge.
In recent years, the Baton Rouge Area Foundation has coordinated with community partners to restore a selection of publicly accessible 3D sculptures in the capital area. Among these are two bronze works by beloved Baton Rouge sculptor and former Gallery member artist Frank Hayden: Tribute to Oliver Pollock and the accompanying Marcha de Galvez fountain. The works are in Galvez Plaza adjacent to the Old State Capitol and honor Oliver Pollock, a significant financier of the American Revolution and the inventor of the US Dollar Sign ($), and Bernardo de Galvez, governor of Spanish Louisiana from 1777-1785.
In this Sundays@4 session you will hear about the broader art restoration initiative being led by the Baton Rouge Area Foundation and dive into the processes local restorationist Susie Anders used to prepare for and conduct the restorations.
