Join us at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 7th for a very special artist talk with the founder of Art-o-mat, Clark Whittington. Coming to BRG from Winston-Salem, NC for this informal conversation, Whittington will discuss the beginnings of the nationwide project, how it has sustained and grown over the past 25 years, and more before taking your questions.
This special presentation is free and open to the public and will lead into this month’s ARTiculate Artist Talk at 4:00 p.m. with BRG Artist Members James Burke, Sarah House, Brian Kelly, and Liz Lessner (also free and open to all).
Art-o-mat® machines are retired cigarette vending machines that have been converted to vend art. There are over 200 active machines in various locations throughout the country. There are around 300 contributing artists from 5 different countries currently involved in the Art-o-mat® project. BRG has been a proud Art-o-mat host since 2013 and introduced a new Art-o-mat machine custom-built for our space in July 2021, thanks to support from Debbie Daniel.
Whittington will also share some exciting news regarding a second Art-o-mat that will soon be unveiled at the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport as part of the BRG@BTR program, which is made possible by Visit Baton Rouge.
