On Sunday, March 17, Baton Rouge Gallery is happy to host musician Natalie Stepaniak for a special viola performance of Dai Fujikura’s “Engraving” with movements curated to speak to select visual works on display within the gallery.
As with all Sundays@4 presentations, this event is open to all at no charge.
As part of her doctoral research, Stepaniak is exploring interdisciplinarity in the arts. In curating a program of contemporary viola works with visual works of art from local, living artists, she will actively seek to understand the effects that interdisciplinary collaboration has with individual performers and artwork in a gallery has with an audience. By combining two typically disparate artforms, the experience of both will hopefully be enhanced for the audience.
Originally from the Denver area, Stepaniak is a violist, composer, and educator. She currently attends Louisiana State University for her Doctor of Musical Arts under the mentorship of Dr. Kimberly Sparr.
She specializes in contemporary music and has collaborated with composers Conner Leigh Shaw, Delanie Molnar, Shawna Wolfe, Ben Nylander, and others. Stepaniak was also one of the original founders of Sonic Harvest, a contemporary music orchestra that programmed concerts of new works from local composers in the Northern Colorado area.
