Buster Keaton's "The Cameraman" with a Live Score by Alabaster Stag

  • Baton Rouge Gallery 1515 Dalrymple Drive Baton Rouge, LA, 70808 United States (map)

Baton Rouge Gallery's popular summer film series, Movies & Music on the Lawn, will once again pair up iconic silent films with the best local, contemporary bands in our area. Each band will perform a never-before-heard score, live, while the film is projected on a huge inflatable outdoor screen on the lawn behind the gallery.

The screenings, which will take place towards the end of the month (May - October) begin at 8 p.m. (or sundown – whichever comes last) and the $7 price of admission included free bottomless popcorn.

This year's series will again offer a diverse slate of both films and bands, allowing you six distinct experiences that will blend the best silent films of all time with the best local music of this time. There will be slapstick comedies, a romance, a Hitchcock thriller, one of the very first and most enduring horror films and a unique "Kids Night" (which will offer three different shorts that'll appeal to kids of all ages).

Musically, this year's series offers everything from a groove-powered soul machine to one of America's top sludge metal bands, from a chamber rock six-piece to an indie singer-songwriter duo. The series always works to offer you intriguing pairings of visuals and sounds and the breadth of this year's musicians will give audiences a truly unique look at both local music and some true silent-era classics.
