Christopher Brumfield : So Many Blue Mondays

December 3 - 28, 2017

Making his debut at BRG since joining the artist member roster at the close of 2016, Christopher Brumfield presents So Many Blue Mondays, an exhibition that includes hundreds of hand-crafted ceramic components. This body of work centers around the scale and fragility of the human body. The artist has felt violence and sickness as a looming presence in his life which has informed this new sculptural work. "My dreams are haunted by the things that happened in and around my life and I wonder if that will ever stop. There were times when I felt beaten, but now I just feel thankful and transformed."

In recent years, Brumfield’s work has focused on memory, dislocation, and how his own ideas about permanence have changed over the past ten years. Locally he is perhaps best known for his installations and photographs that center around his small ceramic gnomes. “The Blue Gnome Brigade” have been placed and photographed “in places where humans have disrupted nature.”

Brumfield’s work has been exhibited across the southeastern United States. Since 2014, he has served on the faculty at Baton Rouge Community College.

Brumfield received his Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics from Newcomb College at Tulane University and his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Louisiana State University.
