Mary Ann Caffery is a photographer who utilizes her relationship to the special landscape in Louisiana as a personal spiritual experience. For her, nature is her cathedral. In this body of work Caffery nods to traditional photography techniques and processes, utilizing the warm tones and light of the early morning sun on the landscape. She also pays special attention to the way that time plays a role in the content of the work; linking the birds themselves with ancient history and the sky as a metaphor for the future.
“I am continually on a quest to photograph wading birds in their habitats in Louisiana… I keep being drawn to the elegance, beauty, and sometimes awkward humor and behavior of egrets, herons, ibises, and spoonbills in and near water.” - Caffery
