Movies & Music on the Lawn Continues its 20th Season with Zorro & BR's own Hydra Plane
Join us on Friday, July 27 when BRG's popular summer film series, Movies & Music on the Lawn, Presented by Pop Shop Records, takes you to Spanish California with local psychedelic fusion band Hydra Plane to perform a special, never-before-heard score for the action-packed 1920 film, "The Mark of Zorro," starring Douglas Fairbanks as the iconic masked hero.
This will be the third of five presentations during Movies & Music's 20th year of bringing together the best silent films of all time with the best musicians of our time (and place).
As always, BRG members get in free of charge and everyone enjoys bottomless popcorn!
Formed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana mid 2016, Hydra Plane plays a combination of psychedelic rock, jazz, and funk, as well as other styles such as hip-hop and world music. The trio consists of Jacob Stanley on guitar and vocals, bassist Eric Stewart, and Stephen Nelson on drums (however they frequently collaborate with various horn players, percussionists, and rappers). Hydra Plane is highly improvisational and strives to always bring something new to their live performances and recordings.
"The Mark of Zorro" (1920) finds the wealthy Don Diego Vega shedding his silks, tying on a mask and cape, and seeking to defend the people of Spanish California who have been crushed under the corrupt Governor Alvarado. With sword in hand, Zorro treats audiences with acrobatics, romance, humor, and swashbuckling escapism.
Join us as Hydra Plane puts a new spin on one of Hollywood's first action films with their own 2018 take on the 1920 adventure.
