About Wumbo: Wumbo is a five-piece indie band from Baton Rouge, LA. Formed in 2016, the group consists of Jake Helfin, Mitchell Mobley, Zak Ocmand, Tanner Yeldell, and Kevin McCabe. Ambient and expansive, Wumbo achieves its unique and original sound through creative instrument combinations and attention to textural detail. Wumbo’s first official release, the Wumbo EP, is out now and their debut album will be released in early summer of 2019.
About The Last Laugh: DIrected by F.W. Murnau, this 1924 German silent classic follows the doorman of a posh Berlin hotel who is so proud of his position that he carries himself like a general in his uniform, and is seen in a similar light by friends and neighbors. After being demoted to washroom attendnat, his self-esteem and prestige takes a sizable hit. The film is considered to have been a bold experiment in that its story is told almost entirely visually, with almost no subtitles. In a sense, the camera is as much a "character" as anyone else.
Join us for a special night as Wumbo reimagines how to experience one of the most unforgettable silent films of the early 20th century. Then join us in July and August for other unique Movies & Music pairings of some of the best silent films of all time with some of the best bands of our time, courtesy of Pop Shop Records.
