Movies & Music Kickoff w/ Michael Foster Project + 'Safety Last'

  • Baton Rouge Gallery 1515 Dalrymple Drive BATON ROUGE United States (map)

We’re kicking off the 2024-25 Movies & Music on the Lawn season - which will be free and open to everyone all season long - on Saturday, September 21! Don’t miss a special night of cinema and sound under the stars when The Michael Foster Project perform live alongside the iconic silent film, “Safety Last” (1923).

Since 1998, the series has been a cultural staple in Baton Rouge, bringing contemporary Louisiana-based musicians to compose and perform original scores for silent-era classic films while they’re projected on a towering inflatable screen inside BREC’s City-Brooks Community Park.

Thanks to the support of our sponsors all of the four Movies & Music on the Lawn events this season are available to everyone at absolutely no cost. And did we mention the free, bottomless popcorn??

About Safety Last (1923): Silent film star Harold Lloyd’s classic film Safety Last comes to life on the big screen 101 years after its debut! The film tells the story of “The Boy” (played by Lloyd) who leaves home for the city, promising to send for his sweetheart once he’s made good. When she goes to meet him before he’s succeeded, he pretends to be the manager of a department store, and death-defying hilarity ensues.

“To see a film from a hundred years ago that can still make your palms sweat is especially impressive. Safety Last!, Harold Lloyd’s most famous picture, manages to do so while also delivering delightful comedy throughout.”
Jules Caldeira, for Film Inquiry
