Ross Jahnke is widely recognized as a printmaker and a painter but he didn’t always want to pursue both concentrations in the arts. Having studied painting and drawing as an undergraduate and even in graduate school, Jahnke was coaxed into taking a printmaking course by another graduate assistant. By the time he graduated, he had expressively mixed the two media.

“My work explores the relationship between printmaker’s fetishisms and unsolicited portraiture. With influences as diverse as Frans Hals and Banksy, new synergies are synthesized from both explicit and implicit concepts.” Janke continues, “As grainy images become distorted by contemporary printmaking practice, the viewer is left with an epitaph to quiet moments in humanity and the entropy of popular culture. ”

Jahnke has been a BRG Artist Member since 1992. He earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing & Painting from the University of Wisconson - Milwaukee, and his Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking & Painting from Louisiana State University.

This exhibition is presented alongside the latest works from Amy James and Mary Jane Parker. All works from these three artists are on view, free of charge during normal gallery hours (12 - 6 p.m., Tue - Sun), through August 29, 2019.
