Herb Roe is a contemporary realist painter, who works in a variety of visual arts media including large-scale historical murals, rendering, drawing, and painting. Recently his work has taken on an allegorical tone, focusing on his life and memories. He tackles topics as diverse as contemporary politics, social issues, opiate addiction, suicide, racism, and the environment. He’s interested in folklore, and philosophy.

“As the world headed into the New Year in early 2020 I embarked on a new direction in my art. Unlike my previous work dealing with the traditions of my adopted Acadiana home, these were to be more allegorical, metaphorical, and personal in nature. They were also to be what I like to describe as more ‘Pan-Southern,’ as I planned works exploring my roots and childhood home in the hills and hollers of Appalachian eastern Kentucky and rust belt southern Ohio and my adult life traveling and working in the southern US, instead of focusing on the swamps and prairies of my adopted home in Cajun south Louisiana.” - Roe
