Artist Danielle Burns fuses traditional print media with digital media in creating prints that explore what she sees as a growing sense of complacency in 21st century society. She points out that a certain level of comfort comes accompanies complacency, or as she puts it, “a false sense of safety that makes us feel impervious to the dangers affecting ourselves and others.” However, Burns is sensitive to not pass judgment, instead aiming to start a conversation on why apathy has become such a popular coping mechanism.
Burns typically sets her subjects against the backdrop of the Louisiana Gulf, a landscape that “encompasses a laissez-faire system of governing that directly parallels ways in which we choose to detach from problems rather than confront them.”
Burns’ work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally including venues in Ireland, Canada, and Japan. Her work as an educator has seen her, since 2015, serve as a Fine Arts Instructor at Baton Rouge Community College where she currently teaches printmaking and graphic design. Her works can be found in the permanent collections at The Savannah College of Art and Design (Savannah, GA), California State University (Fresno, CA), Concordia University (Montreal, QC), Old Dominion University (Norfolk, VA), and others.
This exhibition is presented alongside the latest works from Rosemary Goodell, Mary Lee Eggart, and Brian Kelly. All works from these artists are on view, free of charge, during regular gallery hours (12 - 6 p.m., Tue - Sun) from Nov 19 - Dec 20, 2024, excluding holidays.
